A VERY LARGE BRONZE OF A SIAM DANCER Thailand / Siam, c. 1920s. Heavily casted and finely incised figure on a double lotus base. The depiction is very detailed which shows a high level of craftsmanship quality. The face of the dancer is calm and focused, graceful hand and body movements interpret the subtle nuances of Thai dancing, originally derived from the culture of Cambodian Khmer classical dance. Condition: Good condition with some minor wear and patina. The top knob of the headdress might be a later addition. Provenance: The collection of The Zelnik Istvan Southeast Asian Gold Museum. Institutional art collection in Belgium, acquired from the above. Dr. Istvan Zelnik, President of the Hungarian South and Southeast Asian Research Institute, is a former high-ranking Hungarian diplomat who spent several decades in Southeast Asia, building the largest known private collection of Asian art in Europe.
