An early 19th century French ormolu mantel clock Lopin Palais Royal No.143 the case surmounted by a cherub astride a chariot driven by a pair of galloping horses, holding the reins in his left hand and a palm in his right, the wheel of the vehicle set with an enamel Roman chapter ring signed between V and VII on a large plinth base set with a cast frieze depicting Classical figures including Mercury, on toupie feet, the twin train movement with silk suspension and outside countwheel strike sounding on a bell 48cms (19ins) high. Footnotes: Lopin worked for Breguet in 1798 before opening his own shop at Palais Royal, 1810 - 1840.
