An early 18th century Arabesque walnut inlaid longcase clock with unusual countwheel strike Jonathan Puller, London The case with overhanging cornice on brass-mounted Doric columns over a long door with brass-mounted oval lenticle framed by a full pattern of Berain-esque strapwork and foliate scroll inlay, on the matching base with inlaid footing to the moulded plinth, the 12 inch square brass dial with twin cherub-and-crown spandrels interspersed by foliate engraving framing the Roman and Arabic chapter ring, the finely matted centre with subsidiary seconds dial (hand lacking), good original blued steel hands, chamfered date aperture and elaborately waisted signature cartouche, with four latched dial feet to the movement with five (originally six, but one removed) knopped pillars secured via delicate latches on the frontplate, the going train with anchor escapement, the strike with brass 'hoopwheel' at 90 degrees to the rear of the barrel. 2.25m (7ft 4.5ins) high Footnotes: Jonathan Puller was apprenticed to John Miller circa 1676. He was a member of the Clockmaker's Company between 1683 and 1707.
