A rare late 19th century French gilt brass three gong grande / petite sonnerie chiming and quarter repeating carriage clock with alarm Retailed by Robert Pleissner, Dresden The case with turned handle over a moulded cornice supported by three-quarter reeded Corinthian columns and bevelled glass panels on a stepped base, the sides with plain arched mask, the cream chapter ring with blue Arabic numerals and minute track framing the retailers signature, set in a frosted gilt mask with shaped overlay, an alarm-setting dial below, the movement with silvered platform lever escapement with compensated bimetallic balance, chiming and repeating the hours and quarters on three gongs, the selection lever for grande / petite sonnerie and silence in the base, with separate alarm train 21cms (8.25ins) high. Footnotes: Provenance: The collection of Dr Eugene Antelis. Robert Pleissner (1849-1916) was a German watchmaker who trained and worked in Paris until 1870. He opened his business in Dresden in 1873.
