James McArdell (Irish, 1729-1765) and Robert Houston (Irish, 1721-1775), after Samuel Wale The Four Seasons mezzotints, the set of four plates 30 x 25cm, verre églomisé mounts (4) Provenance: Farm House, Farm Street, Mayfair, London. Condition report: Spring: Some pale scattered dots and light scratches where the ink may have been removed by surface abrasions, or perhaps the ink was not applied sufficiently at time of printing, mostly so in top left quarter. The occasional light brown spot of foxing including on neck, shoulder, arm and hat, these are quite pale. Not seen outside of glazed frame Summer: less surface abrasions but more spots of pale brown foxing, most visible on face, neck, chest, arm, and dress. Not seen outside of glazed frame Autumn: occasional light surface abrasions and some pale flecks of foxing. Some damage and restoration in upper right corner and a white dot of paint to the right of the figure. Not seen outside of glazed frame Winter: A few light surface abrasions. Some white speckling to the bottom of the shawl. A few large pale brown spots of foxing in the background and to the top of the left of the forehead. Some damage and restoration top left edge and a little damage at top right corner. Not seen outside of glazed frame.
