After Claude Lorrain Landscape with the nymph Egeria oil on canvas 64 x 76cm Provenance: Farm House, Farm Street, Mayfair, London. Claude's original composition is in the Museo Nazionale di Capodimonte, Naples. The nymphs of the goddess Diana comfort Egeria on the death of her husband Numa Pompilius. Condition report: Oil on canvas which has been lined. The canvas is in plane with good tension. The lining process has slightly softened the paint layer creating a flat surface and the diagonal weave of the original canvas is now evident in the surface texture. The paint layer is in a stable condition overall with some wear and abrasion in the leaves of the trees. Areas of retouching are mainly located in the sky and the edges of the painting. A line of tress in the middle ground has also been reinforced through retouching. The overpaint is well matched to the original. The varnish is clear, even and semi-matte.
