William Marlow, British 1740-1813- The Pont du Gard, Nîmes; oil on canvas, signed (lower left), 23 x 34.5 cm. Provenance: Geoffrey Hutchinson, 12 Church Row, London, NW3. Exhibited: London, Guildhall Art Gallery, 'William Marlow Exhibition', 1956 (according to a label attached to the stretcher). Note: Typically celebrated for his depictions of the English landscape and the country houses within it, the present work is unusual in the context of Marlow's oeuvre. It was likely inspired by his travels to France and Italy in the 1760s. Please refer to department for condition report
