A Georgian gentlemen's gold agate intaglio cameo ring, with a pale buff coloured agate tablet, intaglio engraved with the head of a lady and a moth. The agate tablet, damaged, rub set to a plain shallow collet to tapered shoulders and a plain shank. In Georgian memorial jewellery the moth is representative of the soul. Tested as approximately 18ct gold. Head 16.50 x 14.20mm Condition report: A crack to the agate tablet from the shoulder and through the hair with a chip in the hair. This appears to have been glued. Surface marks to the mount. The cabochon back to the intaglio slightly protrudes through the back of the collet, hence will not go on a ring shank properly.
