A split pearl ruby, sapphire and diamond butterfly brooch, c.1900, with graduated split pearls forming the abdomen and thorax, the wing tips grain set with sets of three oval mixed cut rubies and a pair of mixed cut sapphires, with rose cut diamonds throughout, all set in silver and faced with gold to the wing tips and backed in gold, with a detachable brooch fitting. Tested as sterling silver and approximately 9ct gold. 42 x 31mm, 12.29g Condition report: Slight curve to the pin. Light surface marks commensurate with its age. The brooch fitting can be removed, originally to be also worn in the hair on a screw in two prong hair pin. It currently cannot be worn as a pendant, although it could be altered.
