A former Austro-Hungarian diamond set reverse painted crystal intaglio brooch, c.1880, with three polychrome painted swallows on a branch. The rock crystal cabochon, backed in gold, to a border of rose cut diamonds in cut down collets, to a scalloped gallery, pin and covered 'C' catch. Austrian assay mark for Vienna, maker's mark unidentified. Tested as approximately silver and 14ct gold. 18 to 20mm diameter, 6.79g Condition report: Maker's mark F&H. Minor marks to the rock crystal under 10x magnification. Tarnished. Pin secure.
