Jack Fellows (American, B. 1941) "Martin PBM-3C Mariner" Signed lower left. Original Oil painting on Masonite. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. Often eclipsed by the Fame of the PBY Catalina, the Mariner none the less was a important aircraft performing anti-submarine patrols throughout the Atlantic and the South Pacific. A PBM-3C was responsible for sinking the U-boat which sunk the Ark Royal. A small number served with RAF coastal command in 1943. The PBM-3R variant was used as a transport.
