Three Russian Palekh lacquer boxes, 20th century, comprising: a hinged example decorated with a soldier on horseback, a rectangular box with a figure issuing orders to a group soldiers and a circular box with cattle, 12 x 10cm (3) The hinged example, has some knocks to the lid in each corner. The most prominent of which, measuring 14mm across, and shows the wood underneath the lacquer. Some internal surface dirt. It depicts Ilya Muromets, a legendary bogatyr and ancient Kievan Rus folk hero. The Cyrillic reads: ? ?????, ? ????????, ?? ????. It reads: To Murom, to Chernihiv, to Kiev.
