He is known as "the first person to write in seal script in the stone drum" and "the last peak of literati painting. He was a flagship figure in painting, calligraphy and seal carving, and had high attainments in poetry and metal and stone. As Li Zhimin, a professor at Peking University and the pioneer of introducing stele into cursive, said, "Compared with his artistic contemporaries, Wu Changshuo is a great master who connects the past and the future."
