A BLUE AND WHITE VASE, LE DYNASTY Vietnam, 15th-16th century. The baluster body rising from a splayed base to a waisted neck with molded lion masks and a straight rim. The exterior boldly painted in underglaze blue with lotus sprays to the body, Buddhist symbols and stiff leaves to the neck, and a band of ruyi heads to the foot, all divided by double line borders. Provenance: Kunsthandel Klefisch, Cologne, Germany, 11 October 2009. German private collection, acquired from the above. A copy of the invoice from Kunsthandel Klefisch, no. 91-0120, dated 11 October 2009, erroneously describing the present lot as a small Ming vase, accompanies this lot. Condition: The exterior with surface alteration consistent with objects from maritime salvage. Extensive weathering and traces of use, some firing flaws and minor nicks, all exactly as expected and commensurate with age.
