A mid-19th century Indian Colonial silver standing cup, Calcutta dated 1867 by Hamilton & Co Of plain goblet form with a circular bucket and a plain pedestal base with a circular foot. The front with a presentation inscription in a shield shape cartouche, reading “Presented to 1st Batt 14th Regt by Lieut R. Graham Pigott 29th May 1867 and Lieut John Losack 6th July 1867 on promotion”. Marked underneath with H&Co, Elephant, capital A, and a trident. Also stamped Hamilton and CO Calcutta. Height – 22.7 cm / 8.9 inches Weight – 478 grams / 15.37 ozt The 1st battalion embarked for Madras in June 1807 aboard the East Indiamen Royal George, Wyndham and Wexford arriving in November and being quartered at Fort St George. Robert Henry Graham Foster Pigott (1808-1880) “to be Lieutenant, by purchase, vice Charles Wood, who retires. Dated 29th May 1867” (The Edinburgh Gazette, May 31, 1867) Sixth child and fourth son of Col George Edward Graham (c.1771, Calcutta -1831), Later Col George Edward Graham Foster Pigott, of Abington Hall, Cambridgeshire, who married Mary (d.1858) daughter and heir of John Foster DD and his wife Miss Pigott.
