Egyptian Royal interest - A pair of late 19th century Ottoman Turkish 900 standard silver dishes, Tughra of Sultan Abdul Hamid II (1876-1909) Each of circular form, with cast and applied everted rims with saw pierced decoration and chased leaves. Each applied with a chased cypher and crown of Khedive Mohamed Tewfil Pasha (r. 1879–1892). Each marked to the field with tughra and sah marks, the rim with an additional sah mark, also with two assay scrapes underneath and to the two to the rims. (2) Diameter – 13.5 cm / 5.35 inches Weight – 389 grams / 12.5 ozt Provenance: Latterly owned by Victor A. Adda (Alexandria 1885-Rome 1965) who took over the family cotton trading business and formed an important collection of coins and antiquities. Thence by descent.
