A William IV sterling silver four-piece tea and coffee service, London 1836 by Benjamin Stephens In the Irish manner, comprising a teapot, coffee pot, a milk jug, and a twin handled sugar bowl. Each of lobed baluster form with an acanthus leaf everted rim, all upon four scallop shell acanthus bracket feet. The pots with curved acanthus tipped spouts with embossed acanthus scroll cartouches opposite moulded acanthus capped C scroll handles fitted with ivory insulators pinned to scroll junction. The pots with hinged domed lids surmounted by detachable cast finials formed as pheasants upon a leaf calyx. The bodies with embossed decoration of vignettes of grouse within the bush with acanthus scrolls all below a textured upper section. Vacant cartouche to either side with traces of a filled inscription to one. The milk and sugar with gilt interiors. Each fully marked to the underside, the lids part-marked, the finials unmarked.
