A George II Irish sterling silver cream jug, Dublin circa 1750 by Samuel Walker (active 1731-69) Of helmet form upon three chased hairy paw feet with cast and applied lion mask junctions within chased rocaille work surrounds. The double C scroll handle leading to a wavy rim and a central girdle. The upper section of body with embossed decoration of a classical dolphin among rococo C scrolls and foliage to one side and a hen heightened with prick dot engraving among similar scrolls to the other. The lower section of body with embossed with leafy roses and a poppy head closed. The underside of the lip with a chased rocaille cartouche, later engraved in the 19th century with a crest of a griffin's head erased, ducally gorged, between two wings. Marked underneath with town mark, standard mark and makers mark (makers mark Bennett 471) Height – 10.6 cm / 4.2 inches Weight – 172 grams / 5.53 ozt The crest is possibly a variant for Sexton, Baronet’s of Circourt, Berkshire
