A George III sterling silver cup and cover, London 1767 by James Baker (probably) Of baluster form upon a spreading circular foot, twin acanthus capped scroll handles with a scallop shell junction. The pull off double domed lid surmounted by a fluted pyriform finial. Engrave dto the front with a coat of arms within a C scroll cartouche flanked by foliage and rocaille work the motto below Pro Deo Et Rege, all surmounted by a crest of a saracen's head affrontée cabossed. Fully marked underneath and to the lid flange. Height – 32 cm / 12.7 inches Weight – 1641 grams / 52.76 ozt The arms are possibly a misinterpretation for Tuckey, Winterborne Basset, county Wiltshire, as a heart vulned is an unusual charge: Arg. a fess gu. between three human hearts vulned and distilling drops of blood on the sinister side Theses arms are also recorded for Tote, Totie, or Totoe, county Salop. A possibility is if the cadency mark for a first son has been wrongly interpreted as the extra fess above the hearts, in that case these arms could be for Thomas Tuckey (1750-1818) first son of Richard Tuckey (1705-1774) and Joanna Phelps (1716-1808), he married on the 14th June 1781 Jane Bailey (1758-1830)
