A CHINESE BLUE AND WHITE KENDI.A CHINESE BLUE AND WHITE KENDI. Ming Dynasty. With an ovoid body painted with three scholars in a wild landscape, a domed spout and a geometric border to the shoulder, the tall neck with flowering prunus branches and a protruding band with ruyi heads around the rim, 23cm H. Provenance: from the collection of David Scrase (1949 – 2020). Renowned scholar and curator, David Scrase was Honorary Keeper of Italian Drawings, Honorary Marlay Group member, former Assistant Keeper, then Keeper, of Paintings, Drawings and Prints and Assistant Director (Collections) of the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge. An internationally acclaimed authority on Italian art, particularly drawings, Scrase published extensively and on a variety of subjects.
