16th century The robustly cast body of compressed globular form supported on three short legs, the exterior brightly enamelled in yellow, white, red, bluish-green and dark blue with a continuous band of meandering lotus blossoms amidst leafy scrolls, the underside centered with stylised florets, repeated at the legs above a row of upright lappets, all below a narrow waisted neck with further florets issuing curling leaves, all on a turquoise ground, the gilt-bronze rim applied with a pair of flaring upright rope-twist handles. 17cm (6 5/8in) wide. 注脚 十六世紀 銅胎掐絲琺瑯纏枝蓮紋雙耳三足爐 Compare a very similar but larger cloisonné enamel tripod incense burner also with a pair of 'rope-twist' handles, mid Ming dynasty, in the Palace Museum, Beijing, illustrated in Zhongguo jinyin boli falangqi quanji: 5: falangqi vol.1, Hebei, 2001, no.77; and another closely related example of similar size but of a slightly different form, also with a pair of upright tope-twist handles, mid Ming dynasty, illustrated in ibid., no.78.
