此件笔山以和阗玉为材，整体圆雕而成，色泽深沉，造型模仿太湖石。太湖石又称“窟窿石”，因通灵剔透而名列四大赏石之一。此笔山将太湖石之特征雕琢的淋漓尽致，窟窿相互交错贯通，山峦起伏有致，器物虽小，但展示出苍劲圆润、雄浑有力之感。整器构思精妙，虽为匠作，却巧似天工。置于文房案头之上，不失为一件陈设佳器。
