A SILVER AND JADE BUTTER TEA SET
Tibet, the silver parts date to 19th century, the jade bowl dates to the first half of the 20th century. The silver stand with the lobed saucer atop, embossed with a dense composition of blossoming flowers and Buddhist treasures, comprising a green and yellow mottled jade cup with black inclusions. The four-level tiered cover, finely engraved and embossed with floral décor in high relief and diaper-pattern band, surmounted by a coral knob.
Condition: Good condition, the silver shows surface wear, nicks, slight warping, and a small loss to the inner rim of the saucer.
Provenance: The collection of The Zelnik István Southeast Asian Gold Museum. Institutional art collection in Belgium, acquired from the above. Dr. István Zelnik, President of the Hungarian South and Southeast Asian Research Institute, is a former high-ranking Hungarian diplomat who spent several decades in Southeast Asia, building the largest known private collection of Asian art in Europe.
