Qing Dynasty Imperial Famille Rose Vase W/Hundred Treasures & Peony Motifs (Has Archaic Seal Mark) From a Vietnamese Royal Family - This magnificent porcelain vase is elaborately decorated in the famille rose style against cobalt blue, yellow, pink and sea-green backgrounds. Each of the four sides of the vase is decorated with different motifs, showing stunning attention to detail. The vase is decorated with the hundred treasures motif along with birds among peony branches. The "Hundred Treasures" is a collection of emblematic forms that includes antiquities, scholar's items, representations of sacrificial vessels and three dimensional decorative arts of all types. The motif is generally associated with the life of a scholar or official, and each character has its own apicio meaning. The peony is a traditional floral symbol of China known as the "flower of riches and honor" or the "king of flowers". Throughout the decorations are also peaches, which are known as omens of longevity and harbingers of happiness and are believed to ward off evil, and butterflies which are known to symbolize love and an undying bond between lovers. The interior and base are glazed with a milk white glaze, and the base bears a six character archaic seal mark in red underglaze. This piecees from the estate of a Vietnamese Royal Family (the family now lives in the United States, and wishes to remain private as they still have relatives living in Vietnam).
