Our oil portrait is the only image of Jefferson painted by a Chinese artist in the early China trade period known to date. Thepanion portrait of an unknown gentleman, clearly a pair to the Jefferson portrait as evidenced by the identical 'faux ovals' and the identical giltwood frames, has been identified by various scholars as possibly a likeness of George Washington, based on profile portraits d
