PROPERTY FROM A PRIVATE COLLECTION A Jade 'Rope-Twist' Conjoined RingsWarring States Each finely carved in mostly continuous spiral fluting arranged diagonally around the ring, the translucent celadon stone polished with mottled areas from burial. Each 1 3/8in (3.8cm) diam; 5/16in (0.9cm) thick 戰國 玉絞絲紋雙連環 Jade rings of this type are thought to belong to a large ensemble of necklace or dress pendant. The design loosely suggest a twisted cord or silk strand, and the technology of making the dense, fluted spirals is worth noting. A fluted jade ring of this type in flattened form, from the Winthrop Collection and now in the collection of the Harvard Art Museums, is illustrated by So, Early Chinese Jades in the Harvard Art Museums , Cambridge, 2019, pp. 244-245, no. 33, with discussions on the technology on pp. 36-37.
