A collection of fourteen Italian Maiolica and incised slipware fragments, 14th - 16th century,prising: A Castel Durante or Urbino fragment of a ‘bella donna’ dish, circa 1520-30, painted with a lady’s ear and neck and part of the identifying ribbon inscribed with her name and bella, 8.2 cm. wide; Two Gubbio fragments, circa 1520-30, each decorated with ruby and gold lustre, one with the lower part of a mask, the smaller fragment a section of a border, the reverse with a foliate lustre design, the larger fragment 8.2 cm. wide; Two Deruta maiolica fragments, the larger a section of a border, circa 1515-20, painted with scale ornament edged with foliate ornament enclosed by a blue line and lustre band border, the tin-glazed reverse decorated with part of a concentric lustre band, the other fragment part of a charger, circa 1520-50, with blue and lustred designs, the larger fragment 8.7 cm. wide; Two Montelupo fragments and a third, probably Montelupo, the first a fragment of a border with a green band rim enclosing a blue band with Sgraffito panels scrolls and further bands, circa 1515-20 (9 cm. wide), the second a fragment of the central part of a dish with an interlocking blue strapwork ‘Nodo orientale’ with Sgraffito centres, 1505-15 (8.2 cm. wide); and a fragment of the centre of a dish, almost certainly Montelupo, with part of a chequerboard roundel design, probably first half of the 16th century (12.8 cm. wide); Three Montelupo fragments, probably from the same dish, first half of the 16th century, the centre with a chequerboard design, the orange-ground border reserved with martial trophies, foliate cornucopias and foliage, the largest a border fragment (18.6 cm. wide. This dish would originally have been approximately 34 cm. diameter); Two Italian incised slipware fragments, both fragments of centres of armorial dishes, the first possibly Umbria, 16th century, with aplete shield within a strapwork escutcheon enriched in pale-blue and green and enclosed by a band of hatched ornament (12.6 cm. high), the second, possibly Tuscan, 16th century, with part of a shield within an escutcheon surmounted by a cross, enclosed by a band of key-pattern ornament (11.5 cm. high); A Tuscan incised slipware fragment of a border of a plate or dish, probably Castel Fiorentino, second half of the 16th century, incised with a foliate design enclosed by a dentil band border flanked by lines (13 cm. wide) (14)Please refer to department for condition report
