Attributed to W.A.S Benson (British 1854-1924), an Arts and Crafts copper and brass chamber stick (hand candlestick), c.1899, unmarked, The brass sconce centred in a circular drip pan, with brass handle, having shaped copper reflective screen embellished with leaf decoration, 22.6 cm high Provenance: Herbert Kennard Collection. Literature: Edited by Ian Hamerton, W.A.S Benson – Arts and Crafts Luminary and Pioneer of Modern Design, Antique Collectors Club, 2005, p.125, Plates 101 and 101A (two views of a similar 'hand candlestick' illustrated); and page 253, Pl 23, a similar stick shown as No.39A on a page from a Benson trade catalogue dating from 1899-1900.Construction sound, elements fixed with brass screws. Some old marks and smudges to copper. Overall light general wear in keeping with age and use. Base slightly uneven - wear to base.
