A set of six Japanese spoons with animal crests, in Liberty & Co retail box, c.1895, each stamped 'SM', box marked inside the lid 'Liberty & Co, 218 Regent St., London. W', Each spoon having a different shaped flower as the bowl, with plain stems terminating respectively with a bird, fish, swallow, frog, butterfly and dragonfly, in fitted Liberty & Co box, longest spoon 9 cm, Literature: Victoria and Albert Museum, 'Liberty's 1875-1975 An Exhibition to Mark the Firms Centenary', July to October 1975, p.26 and p.27, Pl. B 24 ( a set of silver spoons, but with different stems and terminals, marked 'SM' are illustrated, part of the description reads.. 'Japanese. All with maker's mark SM. One with London import marks for 1893.)Swallow spoon looks to have been repaired where the bowl joins the stem. Wear and scuffs to the box in keeping with age - the inside not too bad.
