Both were purchased at an auction of contents from Belton House in 1984 amongst a small group of similar wares, all drilled with a single hole for suspension. Spero suggests this group was acquired at Belton House in the 1740s. The particularly rare moulded underside, seen on both the present lot and the Godden example, is classified by as 'type C1a', see Ray Jones, The Origins of Worcester Porcelain (2018), p.244, fig.(ii).
