Considered an artistic prodigy as a child, he studied painting with Wu Zuoren, Li Kuchan, Liu Lingcang, Zhou Sicong and Jiang Zhaohe. The artist began his professional career in 1978 when he took a position at the Beijing Fine Art Academy. Eventually he was promoted to be the dean and president of the Beijing Fine Art Academy, until his recent retirement. The artist has had his work exhibited internationally with recent solo exhibitions at the Heritage Museum in Singapore, and a retrospective of his work at the Beijing Fine Art Academy.
