A CARVED BROWN AND WHITE AGATE SNUFF BOTTLE1750-1860 Of rounded form with a cylindrical neck and a slightly concave mouth, and with a neatly carved oval footrim, very well-hollowed, the honey-brown stone with white inclusions carved in high relief on one main side with two horses, one standing with a raised hoof observing the other rolling on its back, the reverse left undecorated; stopper. 2in (5cm) high 1750-1860 瑪瑙巧雕雙駿圖鼻煙壺一件 Provenance: Eldred's Auction Gallery, August 1996 Joan and Ted Dorf Collection, no. 256 This bottle is one of a small group where the white quartz inclusion in the stone is used to dramatic effect. The bottle itself is only two inches in height but the carving is refined and powerful.
