A PINK TOURMALINE 'PEACH AND BAT' PENDANT, 19TH CENTURY China. The flattened pendant is delicately carved as a group of peaches growing upon a leafy stem, with a bat perched on the largest of the fruit. The pendant is pierced at the top and strung with seed pearls and a small jadeite bead of deep emerald and apple green tone with white inclusions. The translucent stone of an intense pink color with pale inclusions.

Provenance: London trade.
Condition: Good condition with some old wear, a small nick to one leaf, minor nibbling to exposed areas. The stone with natural inclusions and fissures, some of which may have developed into small hairline cracks over time.

The subject of peaches and bats is very popular in art of the Qing period because it is imbued with auspicious connotations. As peaches denote longevity and bats signify happiness, imagery combining peaches and bats represent the blessing 'may you possess both longevity and happiness'.

十九世紀粉紅碧璽福壽
中國。扁平的吊墜被精美地雕刻成樹枝樹葉間的桃子，一隻蝙蝠棲息在最大的桃子上。吊墜頂部穿孔，並串有珍珠和一顆深綠的小翡翠珠。深粉色半透明寶石，內含淺色內沁。
