A JADEITE PENDANT OF A MONKEY WITH PEACH, LATE QING TO REPUBLIC
China, 1840-1940. Carved and pierced as a monkey with quizzical expression seated beside and leaning on a large peach borne on a leafy, gnarled branch. Its right forepaw is raised to scratch the side of its head, the latter turned to the side. The translucent stone of a pale green tone with apple green inclusions.
Provenance: North-American trade.
Condition: Very good condition with minor wear and traces of use. The stone with natural inclusions and fissures, some of which may have developed into small hairline cracks over time. Possibly some microscopic nicks.
