A FAMILLE ROSE 'PEONY AND CHRYSANTHEMUM' DISH, 18TH CENTURY
China. Finely painted in gilt and bright enamels to the interior with blossoming peonies and chrysanthemums, encircled by a border in the shape of pomegranates, decorated with peonies and chrysanthemums against a freely painted scroll ground. The reverse painted in iron-red with evenly spaced floral sprays.
Provenance: Old Austrian private collection. The base with two old labels reading 'famille rose circa 1730, chinesisches Porzellan, J.N.' and '254'.
Condition: Excellent condition with only minor old wear and glaze flaws. The present lot, in such pristine condition for a famille rose dish of the 18th century, must be considered rare.
