A SANDWICH GLASS 'MELON' SNUFF BOTTLE, MID 18TH TO EARLY 19TH CENTURY
China. Skillfully carved in the form of a melon borne on a gnarly stem issuing a smaller melon and leaves, and a butterfly to one side. The translucent green glass layer sandwiched above a mottled layer of white, gold, and pale violet.
Provenance: From a German private collection.
Condition: Very good condition with minor wear and manufacturing flaws, such as open bubbles, few small nibbles to exposed areas, some possibly smoothened. A small hole drilled to one leaf for usage as a pendant, probably inherent to original manufacturing.
