A FOUR-TIERED LACQUERED SPLIT BAMBOO BETEL BOX, BURMA, 1900-1960
Comprising two trays, the base and the cover, finely painted in red, black, and yellow to depict mythical animals and dancing figures amid geometric floral designs, all executed in the yun technique. The base and cover are inscribed, the interior is coated in cinnabar red.
Provenance: From a German private collection, assembled in the 1990s, and thence by descent in the same family. Old label to base, '22'.
Condition: Very good condition, few natural age cracks, minor nicks and chips, few small losses. Fine naturally grown patina overall.
