Description

A pair of Meissen porcelain salts from a service for Count Finck von Finckenstein Dulong model salt bowls decorated with Continental birds amid fruit and flowers. Blue crossed swords mark. Minor wear to the gilding. W 10.7 cm. C. 1762. These salts come from a dinner service presented by the Prussian King Frederick II to his minister and close confidant Karl Wilhelm Finck von Finckenstein (1714 - 1800). The occasion for the gift is thought to be the award of the Order of the Black Eagle, with which Finckenstein was decorated in 1762. The exact extent of the order is unknown. After remaining in the family for centuries, large parts of the service found their way onto the art market. Provenance Private collection Westphalia. Literature Cf. cat. Sammlung Hoffmeister, vol. I, Hamburg 1999, no. 219. Larger amounts of pieces from this service sold by Sotheby`s, London, 22nd February 1988, lot 382 and Bonhams, London, 7th December 2011, lot 98 (plate), 111 (plate), 113 (plate), 166 (two soup bowls). A further salt from the service sold in Lempertz Berlin Auction 1065 on 30th April 2016, lot 80. Paar Salznäpfe aus dem Service für den Grafen Finck von Finckenstein Porzellan, farbiger Aufglasurdekor, Goldrand. Modell Dulong. Dekoriert mit heimischen Vögeln zwischen Spalierblumen, Streublumen, Früchte und Gemüse. Blaumarke Schwerter. Gold etwas berieben. B 10,7 cm. Literatur Vgl. Kat. Sammlung Hoffmeister, Bd. I, Hamburg 1999, Nr. 219. Größere Konvolute aus dem Service verst. Sotheby`s, London, 22. Februar 1988, Los 382 und Bonhams, London, 7.
