The original lid with depictions of military encampments and a pine cone finial. Blue crossed swords mark. H 10, D 10.4 cm. C. 1740. Besides Johann George Heintze, the painters Philipp Ernst Schindler senior (1694 - 1765), Christian Friedrich Kühnel (1719 - 1792), Johann Balthasar Borrmann (1726 - 1784) and Philipp Ernst Schindler junior (1727 - 1793) were primarily responsible for the depiction of "bataillen", i.e. battle scenes, in Meissen. They used engravings by Georg Philipp Rugendas (1666 - 1742), Philips Wouwerman (1619 - 1668) and August Querfurt (1696 - 1761) as models, from which they sometimes freely combined motifs. Provenance Private collection, Rhineland. Literature Cf. items from a service with similarly finely painted battle scenes in the Carabelli collection, illus. in Pietsch, Frühes Meißener Porzellan, Sammlung Carabelli, Munich 2000, no. 124 - 129. Als Vorlagen nutzten sie Stiche von Georg Philipp Rugendas (1666 - 1742), Philips Wouwerman (1619 - 1668) und August Querfurt (1696 - 1761), aus denen sie Motive teilweise frei kombinierten. Provenienz Rheinische Privatsammlung. Literatur Vgl.
