More interestingly, the authors illustrate an identical bottle to ours, ibid., p. 444, fig. 2, which was illustrated in the famous William Bragge Collection Album. The first bound publication dated to 1874, but with some uncertainty as to when the hand-painted illustrations were added, though certainly no later than a second edition of 1880 and almost certainly executed in the 1870's. William Bragge was one of the earliest serious collectors of snuff bottles in Europe.
