Description A VERMILLION LACQUERED SAGE-JUBAKOJapan, Meiji Period (1868-1912), second half of the 19th century. The frame raised on four short bracket-feet, lacquered in vermillion, fitted on top with a warabite-shaped handle and chrysanthemum backplates, two small lozenge gilt studs as handle rest, the sides with hyotan (double gourd) shaped and lozenge openings, the rims inlaid in mother-of-pearl. The boxes with mother-of-pearl exteriors and vermillion lacquered interiors.Condition: Very good condition, some wear to the lacquer, light surface scratches, minor losses to the inlays, few small chips to the lacquer.
