Description A SIX-PANEL FOLDING SCREEN WITH PRUNUS TREEJapan, Meiji period (1868-1912) or slightly later The six-panel byobu (folding screen) painted in ink and watercolor on paper, with a silk brocade frame and mounted to a black-lacquered wood screen with gilt-metal fittings. Depicting a continuous scene of a blooming prunus tree, and a small bird perched on a branch. Signed to the lower right and stamped with a red artist seal. SIZE 91 x 45 cm (each panel) TOTAL SIZE 91 x 270 cm Condition: Traces of wear and age, foxing, soiling, minor losses, tears, and flakes to the lacquer. The joints have been reinforced with tape.
