Description AN OTSU-E PAINTING OF ONI NO NENBUTSUARCJapan, Edo Period (1615-1868). The otsu-e depicting the demon's prayer (oni no nenbutsu), with an oni disguised as a priest in monk's robes begging for money, carrying a gong, wooden mallet, and donation registry, the face with a comical expression and bushy eyebrows above bulging eyes. Mounted as a hanging scroll with cinnabar lacquer handles.Inscriptions: The reverse 'Otsu-e, oni no nenbutsu' and with other inscriptions.
