Description A SUIT OF ARMOR WITH KABUTOJapan, Edo period (1615-1868)The matching components of brown-lacquered iron and laced in blue and black with green and ochre, comprising a tall kabuto shaped as a fish with the caudal fin at the top and two further fins to each side, lacquered in silver and with five-lame shikoro, the circular metal maedate in the form of a Kashiwa Kamon; a menpo lacquered red to the interior and with a four-lame yodare-kake; fitted with seven sections of five-lame kusazuri; kote and tekko on blue and gold textile with kusari (chainmail); and further with sode (shoulder guards), haidate (thigh guards), and suneate (shin guards). With a wood storage box.Condition: With extensive wear, some loose threads, and losses to lacing, flaking, cracks and losses to lacquer, some with associated touchups, tears, and losses to textile. Overall, still good condition.Dimensions: Height ca. 147 cm
