Description KOSEKI: A RARE WOOD NETSUKE OF A STREET PEDDLERBy Koseki, signed Koseki 江石Japan, late 18th-early 19th century, Edo period (1615-1868)The peddler smiling enigmatically and holding a box before him, selling his wares, an unusual creature appearing from the box which is slung by a cord around the man's neck. His robe is finely incised and decorated with scrolls and a seam along the back. Excellent, generously excavated 'chimney himotosh'i through the back and underside.
