Description TOMOMASA: A BOXWOOD NETSUKE OF A COILED DRAGONSigned Tomomasa 友正 Japan, Meiji period (1868-1912)Depicting a dragon curled in tight loops around a large ball, the dragon clutching the magical pearl with his sharp claws, the scales neatly incised and his mouth open. The artist signature TOMOMASA on an inlaid plaque at the bottom and two small (inlaid) himotoshi to the side.HEIGHT 3.8 cmCondition: Good condition with minor wear and few short age cracks. The inlaid ring of one himotoshi lost. Provenance: Collection Gabor Orszagh, Budapest, Hungary. Purchased from Michael Bernstein, New York.
