Description † A FINE STAG ANTLER NETSUKE OF A DOUBLE DRAGON-HEADED MOKUGYOUnsignedJapan, Tokyo, Asakusa district, late 19th centuryFinely carved from a choice piece of antler near the coronet, the mokugyo surmounted by two confronting dragon heads with a tama in their mouths, their swirling manes extending downwards and terminating in pleasing curls, two registers incised with fish scales, the reverse featuring the unworked, naturally dramatic texture of the material.
