The eyes double inlaid in pale and dark horn. Natural himotoshi through the right sleeve fold, signed to the back of the trousers MEIKEI SEIHOSAI.HEIGHT 9.5 cmCondition: Excellent condition, minor wear.Provenance: Collection Gabor Orszagh, Budapest, Hungary, purchased from Michael Strone.Chindon'ya, also known as Japanese marching bands, and known historically as tozaiya or hiromeya are elaborately costumed street musicians in Japan who advertise for shops and other establishments. In modern-day Japan, Chindon'ya are a rare sight, having been usurped by other forms of advertising such as magazines, television, and the Internet.Seihosai Meikei, born 1932 in Tokyo, was a fine creator of netsuke bursting with energy and force.
