Ca. 200-500 AD. A bronze ring with a round hoop and flattened, circular bezel bearing an incised eagle motif. An aquila (eagle) was a prominent symbol used in ancient Rome, especially as the standard of a Roman legion. A legionary known as an aquilifer, or eagle-bearer, carried this standard. Each legion carried one eagle. This ring likely belonged to either a legionary officer or standard-bearer. For more information on Roman rings, see Ruseva-Slokoska, L.
