The exterior of this vessel is adorned with finely detailed cartouches, each depicting an animal or mythological creature. The densely placed designs create a mesmerizing effect that captures the eye and stirs the imagination. A band of calligraphy encircles the shoulder, adding a layer of depth and meaning to the piece. Similar vessels were used for a variety of functions, from storing water and food to serving wine and other beverages. They were often commissioned by wealthy patrons and rulers, who sought to display their power and status through the objects they owned.Size: L:220mm / W:240mm ; 3.05kgProvenance: From the collection of a London gentleman; formerly in a collection of A.
